Movie and Book research

I have watched "The Fly", "Star Wars, The Phantom Menace", and "Aliens 2." I think that these 3 movies that i have watched so far are great examples of stereotypical science fiction plots. Like strange aliens, space ships, mutant bugs, all of which are great material

I have began reading "Dune" by Frank Herbert and i plan to begin another book soon.

Author Research

Issac Asimov

He won the Hugo Award four times and the Nebula Award once. Made several hundred articles and more than 500 books. He was the most famous, honored, and had the most widely read books.

Novel reading

I read the novel dune by Frank Herbert written in 1984.

This is a book about the future in which there are no computers of robots and everything is based on the spice. It also has a medieval type hierarchy. It is an extrapolation on our dependence on machines and how eventually customs and loyalty will be the rulers of everything.

I have seen all 3 original Star Wars, and also found a short film, made in 1977, of what they thought the internet would look like in 1990.

Bill M said...

So far I have looked up writers or authors of Science Fiction novels such as Harlan Ellison and Dan Simmons to get an understanding of how they get their ideas and motivation to come up with the some, far fetched, pieces they publish.

For my time period i have watched a few series of classic movies. The original star wars, tremors, and back to the future. I have read the book Transall Saga by Gary Paulsen, which features the main character getting sucked into a bizarre seperate dimension. He has to rely on his basic instincts to to survive in a world of he knows nothing of and the natives he's never met. I plan on researching some more authors and see if i can find a book that i find interesting.

For my science fiction slide show project I have done a few different things. First I looked for short stories in the time period and was able to find two different interesting stories. Also while flipping through channels on the tube and came across a re-run of Star Trek that will be a good source.
