If Mrs. Stogumber is now a Reclamation Worker, doesn't that mean she'll be going after Trevnik just like Hejar had done for so long? She might as well have just told Trevnik, "Kill him, so I can take his place."

Justin --

I guess this would be so if Mrs. Stogumber held the same morals as Hejar, but perhaps her motivation was more revenge.

I don't understand if Hejar could smell death as well as the story said he could how did he not forsee his fate when he was so close to two people who wanted to do him harm

I think his own greed and want for Trevnik may have blinded him to his own senses and therefore he could not smell the inevitable waiting to happen. Or it may be that he can smell death only after critical wounds or damage has been received by a person.
